Poem Criteria

Doesn't Have to Rhyme, But Can.

Every poem is unique in it's own way. Feelings, thoughts, emotions, and senses are all portrayed differently depending on the poem and the poet. Therefore, if the poet feels the need to rhyme, he or she can, but it is not required.

Rhyming Must Have Structure.

If a poet chooses to rhyme, they must have some sort of structure. Their structures may vary depending on how the poet wants it. For example, a stanza may be in the format of ABAB. As long as the structures stay consistent throughout the poem, it is okay.

Must Contain Imagery.

Since our topic is City Life, we want each poem we create to have a sense of imagery in some sort of way. We want to take the essence of living, and being in the city, and put that in to our poems. If we are successful, the reader should be able to get a clear understanding as to how our lifestyle is.

Must Contain a Mood or Tone.

Whether we talk about how much we dislike the city, or how much we love it, our opinion needs to be evident. If we were indecisive with our opinion, this should be evident as well.
